Many of the publications of Brother Adam in English have
appeared in Bee World, Journal of The International Bee Research Association (IBRA). This
journal also published a „Profile“ in 1965. Brother Adam has been a member of the Council of
BRA since 1964 until 1987 and a vice-chairman of this organisation since 1971.

This report covers journeys in Morocco, Asia Minor, northern Greece and the
Aegean Isles, Yugoslavia and the Banat, Egypt and Libya. No other person has travelled so
long and so far as Brother Adam in order to study the different races and strains of honeybees, and
to obtain breeding stock from them to use and observe under the conditions of his own
apiary.

on the many journeys Brother Adam has made all over the world observing and studying the races of

An updated edition of this account of a unique experience the travels of
one of our most famous beekeepers to investigate the different races of European and Mediterranean
honeybee. Brother Adam underlook his journeys with a view to incorporating the desirable
characteristics of the bees he met into his strain, with such succes that his Buckfast strain of
bee renowned for its resistance to disease, mildness of temper and honey gathering potential.
The first part of his book deals with the journeys themselves, and part two
with an evaluation of the qualities and potential of the different races he had observed.
Brother Adam himself regards his work as incomplete, but this invaluable
volume is a testament to his outstanding dedication to bees and beekeeping.

Dit boek wil in een leemte voorzien. In Nederland bestond voor de gewone imker met het standaardraam tot op heden geen boek dat een werkmethode bood voor het imkeren met vruchtbare koninginnen, zoals die van het Carnica-ras en het Buckfast-ras. De toenemende behoefte naar een dergelijk boek bleek uit de steeds terugkerende vraag „Hoe moet ik imkeren met zulke volken?“ Het boek biedt de imker aanknopingspunten om tot een antwoord te komen op de vraag hoe om te gaan met veranderende situaties in ons cultuurlandschap en onze landbouwgewassen. Het stelt daarom ook uitdrukkelijk de eigenschappen van de bijen waarmee we imkeren aan de orde, evenals ander kastmateriaal met grotere ramen.
